Hello Friends! Apologies for our rather long blog silence - it's been a bumpy couple of months. But (knock on wood) the Airstream hasn't needed any repairs for a couple months and we actually took it on a trip, so what better time to post a little blog update. Bill's mom was having some health issues so he took the Airstream down to see her in Southern California. I flew to meet him and we road-tripped back with a lovely stop in the Carmel/Monterey area. It felt good to be back on the road!
And we added a new family member - please meet Luka (aka Larry aka Luka Blue aka Buddy)! He's a husky-shepherd mix that was brought up to Portland from a high-kill shelter in California. The vet says he's between 1.5 and 3 years old but my bet is definitely on the younger side. Luka boy is quite the puppy and giving us a run for our money! He's adjusted pretty well to the Airstream but he's about 20 lbs heavier and quite a bit taller than our sweet Inga girl, so it feels a bit cozy at times! He also is quite the escape artist - which combined with some separation anxiety led to our most 'exciting' adventure with him so far. I'll start with the picture:
We had stayed overnight at my parents' condo in NE Portland and then left the following afternoon for 2 hours for a photo shoot. It was an oddly hot day in May so we had the portable A/C unit venting out the front window but didn't think there was any way Luka would bother that. So we came home to Luka on top of the landing roof with our neighbor at the window across frantically trying to call Animal Control. Yes, Luka had pulled the A/C vent out of the window, raised the sill, ate through the screen and then wiggled his way out onto the landing. He was completely freaked out (although he looks pretty chill in this photo) so Bill had to go out on the landing (and hope it was sturdy enough) and pick him up while I pulled him through the hallway window. Whew! It could have been so much worse but it was still pretty traumatic!
